why are famous people’s signatures worth so much?
One axiom of a free-enterprise system is that rarity equals value. If there were a million Abe Lincoln signatures, they’d be relatively cheap.
Now as to why signatures per se have any particular value at all; well, that’s the nature of “collectibles.” They have no particular intrinsic value to me, thus I wouldn’t pay anything (in either money or time spent in line getting someones autograph) for one; but I recognize some people find them interesting and a way to connect with someone famous, and thus value them somewhat.
