Michael Schumacher
Seven-time Formula One world drivers’ champion, Michael Schumacher was born 3rd January 1969 in Hürth-Hermülheim, Germany. Considered the best driver Formula One has ever seen, Michael began racing at the age of four with a pedal kart. Both of his parents were keen for him to advance as he began to show talent at such an early age at karting, working hard in his early years to support him with every opportunity to prove himself. Most of the drivers on the Formula One circuit begin with karting, but only the select few who climb high above the rest end up taking to the seat of the million pound cars built for one of the most intense racing standards.
Schumacher holds some of the most prestigious and rare awards within the F1 world. These include being the only German to win the Formula One World championship, and with his brother Ralf, being the only siblings to not only win F1 races but the only two to ever win a first and second place finishes in the same race.
With every F1 career, not everything was positive. Michael also held, until 2009, the record for being the only driver to be banned from the 1997 World Championship due to a controversial collision with Jacques Villeneuve, one of Schumacher’s main racing rivals.
Off the track, Michael is a spokesman for driver safety and a key figure within Ferrari.He currently advises for Ferrari, where many new drivers admire his experience and guidance. His nicknames from working with Ferrari include ‘The Red Baron’ and “Regenkönig” (rain king).
Schumacher salary at times has always been high, and he is thought to have made over $650 million and endorsements over his career. Thought to have given over tens of millions of dollars to charity, Michael has been involved in numerous humanitarian efforts throughout life, and is used for publicity for various popular brands and charitable organizations.
His most recent activity, nearly saw him return to F1 after retiring in 2006, to replace recently injured Felipe Massa, but was not seen as fit to race, due to a recent neck injury from a German Superbike test.
The 13th series of BBC’s Top Gear saw the mysterious character ‘The Stig’ unveiled as Schumacher. ‘The Stig’ a super secret identity by the popular motoring programme, tested a range of cars, and taught celebrity’s to drive on a race track. This unveiling of Michael proved his lasting presence as supreme race driver, and clearly not wanting to give up his driver’s seat, even after retiring.
