How do I get attached to an infantry unit as a Combat Medic?

I leave for BCT in 4 months and start AIT as a Medic shortly after that. At what point in time will I be able to sign up for Airborne, Ranger, 10th Mountain, or another Infantry unit. What is the process, and what are some things to boost my chances of getting with the unit I want.

Listen to Hostile, he’s dead on. Without a contract there is no guarantee to get any of those things. It doesn’t mean you won’t, it just might take 3 to 5 years (ie. a bonus for re-enlistment). Also, when you get to your 1st unit, volunteer for EVERYTHING. I know they say to not volunteer, but that is for basic training. Your efforts will be noticed in your unit. A “go-getter” is much more likely to get what they want. Guys in my unit that volunteered all the time were the first to get promoted, and their leadership did everything they could to ensure they got all the courses they asked for.
